2014’s Final Plant-Based Picnic

Christmas is right around the corner and with just a few weeks until we enter 2015, I wanted to reflect on this year a little bit and share everything that’s happened since Gloriously Delicious began.

Gloriously Delicious started out as my own little recipe book, designed to document all the new and inventive ways plant-based food could be harnessed to create unique and innovative dishes in the simplest of ways. My transition into this lifestyle comes with a long story which may not be worth turning to while we celebrate the incredible journey this blog has taken me on, but I never expected it would turn into the passion that it has. Furthermore, I never even dreamed that I would be able to share this passion with so many of you and for that I wholeheartedly thank you. For taking the time to read these posts, for commenting on my photos and for trying out my recipes; I’m so appreciative of everything you all have done to help me realise my love for health, wellness and for this gloriously delicious diet. If you’ve been with me for a while now, you know that it’s not enough for me to just write these posts and for you to receive them on the other side of a computer screen. I want to connect with you all personally and be a very real source of support in your strive for a healthier lifestyle, and this is why plant-based picnics have become a huge part of the Gloriously Delicious ethos.

Meeting my two beautiful friends, Pixie and Natasha, all those months ago was a powerful moment in my life. It’s very different, coming face to face with the people behind these amazing blogs and seeing for yourself the role food has had in their lives, from just reading a short Instagram caption. We all had a story to tell and coming together from different angles because of one thing, our interest in natural, healing food, sparked a desire to connect with more like-minded souls which led to us creating the now ever so successful plant-based picnics.

The memory of that first picnic is so special to me because it was such a low key and intimate affair, yet it was the start of something truly incredible. Now, 5 months down the line, these picnics have become an established and anticipated event in the London health food scene, bringing together people from across the country. There are no words to describe how overwhelmingly proud I am to be a part of this and to have the opportunity to interact with so many of you because of this growing community. I can only thank you for being the sources of inspiration that you are and for making what I do so worthwhile. You’ve helped me envision a future for Gloriously Delicious and I hope that the coming years will see this vision fulfilled. There’s so much exciting stuff ahead and I can’t wait to share it all with you.

Of course, plant-based picnic couldn’t bid farewell to 2014 without a bang and so last weekend we returned to Tanya’s Cafe, the venue for our first ever indoor picnic, for one final festive foodie feast. With goodie bags from Welltodo London, incredible dishes from all of you and our first ever charity hamper raffle to support Ehlers-Danlos Support UK, it truly was the best picnic yet.

See you in the new year!

Maxine Ali
